Baga Tribe Face Mask

The composite structure of this mask represents a human head from which another, smaller, almost identical head emerges. The quite realistic treatment of the faces is found in other Baga works, such as the “young bride” headdresses. Carved in wood, the origin is from a local workshop and dates to pre 1940.
