Mossi Tribe Face Mask

The Mossi are farmers and herdsmen who live in central Burkino Faso. The mask dates to pre 1930 and is made of wood and painted in black, white and red. The mask represents the mythical figure of Poughtoenga (Bearded Women), who was the daughter of a Nyonyose elder and mother of the first Mossi ruler.
